A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.3 hit the city of Christchurch, New Zealand on February. The quake's epicenter was Lyttelton with a depth of 5 kilometers, though it was felt as far away as Wellington and Dunedin. 166 people were killed. the economic loss is estimated to be £4.5billion-£6.7billion.

Australia Floods 2011
A series of floods hit Australia, beginning in December 2010, primarily in the state of Queensland including its capital city, Brisbane. Three-quarters of the state of Queensland was declared a disaster zone. The floods forced the evacuation of thousands of people from towns and cities. At least seventy towns and over 200,000 people were affected.37 people were killed and 9 people are recorded as missing. Economic loss is estimated to be £ billion. It has been recorded as Australia's costliest natural disaster ever.
Brazil Landslide 2011
In January 2011, torrential rain-storms triggered muslides in the mountainous Serrana region outside Rio de Jnaerio. It was recorded the worst natural disaster in the history of Brazil. 916 people were killed and 345 were missing. The recorded economic loss was about £187 million.
Japan Earthquake 2011
On March 11 at 2:46pm JST a massive 9.0-magnitude earthquake occurred near the northeastern coast of Japan, creating extremely destructive tsunami waves which hit Japan just minutes after the earthquake, and triggering evacuations and warnings across the Pacific Ocean. The earthquake and tsunami have caused extensive and severe damage in Northeastern Japan, leaving thousands of people confirmed dead, injured or missing, and millions more affected by lack of electricity, water and transportation. More than 10,000 people were killed and 17,000 are missing. Economic loss of about £ 189 billion has been recorded.
